David Frum: Romney is losing because he doesn’t pander enough

(2) The Romney campaign has a messaging problem because it has a policy problem.

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(3) The policy problem is that the Romney campaign offers nothing but bad news to hardpressed Americans and the broader middle class.

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(4) How do you message: I'm doing away w Medicaid over the next 10 yrs, Medicare after that, to finance a cut in the top rate of tax to 28%?

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(5) I don't care if you hire the people who produce the ATT ads that make my wife cry, there's no lipsticking that pig.

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(6) The problem isn't the campaign leadership; it's the party's followership

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(7) Over course of campaign, Romney has changed from a pragmatic, capable manager into a dog-whistling culture warrior.

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(8) Candidate cd have and shd have resisted that pressure – but it's rich for ppl who demanded the change to complain about consequences.

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(9) I thought Stevens' – drafted Tampa speech did good job of humanizing the man, Mitt Romney

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

(10) But voters do care about the q: what will this presidency do for me? And "dick you over" is not a winning answer

— David Frum (@davidfrum) September 17, 2012

In other words, Romney should have promised to leave entitlement programs alone, i.e., a continuation of the policies that have worked so great for middle-class Americans during the last 3 1/2 years:

@davidfrum Right, because a much better message wd be: Don't touch Medicare/caid or the anti-growth tax-code because status quo is great.

— Bret Swanson (@JBSay) September 17, 2012

In any case, Romney is not proposing to end Medicare. In truth, he and his running mate Paul Ryan are trying to save the program.

The notion that Romney is trying to eliminate Medicaid is also absurd, as is Frum’s allegation that Romney has become a far-right “culture warrior.”

But, hey, Frum is just trying to help Romney. Or is he?

It's cute that @davidfrum pretends to have Mitt Romney's best interests in mind when he tweets.

@davidfrum is the most ineffective sleeper agent of all time.

Update: If Romney’s campaign is so awful, why does the latest Rasmussen poll show Romney ahead of Obama by 2 points?
