Salon’s Sirota suffers meltdown over Chick-fil-A’s ‘Jolly Barnyard’ horror

The last couple of times we checked in with progressive author and Salon contributor David Sirota, he was race-baiting his way around the Twitterverse. But this week, Sirota has the vapors over something truly “insidious and dangerous”: a Chick-fil-A-branded version of the Little Golden Book classic “The Jolly Barnyard.” Evidently the children’s book fails to accurately depict the realities of the factory farm industry.

This absolute monstrosity of agri-propaganda for ages three and up amounts to what Sirota calls “Chick-fil-A’s latest horror.”

Why are fast food companies telling your kids they support diversified family farming, when they do the opposite? salon.com/2012/12/27/chi…

As Jonah Goldberg points out, this is not a parody. It doesn’t even have the stench of a failed Roger Simon-style satire. But that doesn’t make it any less hilarious.

This is the greatest thing on the web today.Absolutely hilarious made more so b/c the guy really believes it. LOLOL salon.com/2012/12/27/chi…

@davidsirota Raise your kid as you see fit.But the outrage over a Golden Book is hysterical. @nrojonah

@lheal Someday the dude’s kid is going to be shocked to learn the cows and chickens do not really talk to each other.

I, for one, am shocked to find out @davidsirota is a moron. salon.com/2012/12/27/chi…

So, how did this horror show of a Golden Book get into Sirota’s house anyway? He’s not sure since he and his family are vegetarians, but clearly the calculating “evil geniuses” at Chick-fil-A are to blame.

He’s mad at Chick-Fil-A b/c he’s too much of a wus to tell his own kid “no?” MT @ewerickson: Absolutely hilarious po.st/wYSVKi

Despite his misgivings about anything related to Dan Cathy and Chick-fil-A, every night Sirota sits down with his two-year-old son to read all about Farmer Brown. Heaven forfend he simply buy a copy without Chick-fil-A branding for $3.99. Is 4 bucks really too much to prevent Chick-fil-A from literally rewiring his son’s brain to foster brand loyalty and love of Big Chikin?

Such a LOON! Isn’t it equally possible they are simply supporting the reading of a classic children’s book? salon.com/2012/12/27/chi…

I find it hard to believe that this book just appeared in your house, or that you read it to your kid every night @davidsirota
